Best Movie of 2019



2019 was a good year for moviegoers, wasn’t it? In 2019 we got to see John Wick, The Avengers, Parasite, Star Wars, The Lighthouse, Toy Story, Ford v Ferrari, etc. You, me, your friends, your neighbors, your siblings, and even your pets love all of that movie. We do love all of it but in the end, we can’t love them equally. We will always have our favorites that no matter what other people say about it, no matter all its flaws and holes we will blindly love them. You have yours, your friends have theirs and so am I. Now I just want to share with you my 3 favorite movies from 2019:


  • .       The Two Popes

The Two Popes is a movie inspired by the true events of Pope Francis and Pope Benedictus XVI. This Movie is focusing on the two highly respected Catholic leader conversation. Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio which portrayed by Jonathan Pryce has submitted his resignation letter as the archbishop but the Vatican has not responded yet. As he receives an invitation to come to the Vatican, he brings his resignation letter. Then he meets with the Pope which portrayed by Antony Hopkins. They debated the role of the church in today's society. There is disagreement, there is conflict, there is mutual respect between these two. But besides all of the religious debate, there is also football discussion, there is music and there is food that makes this movie beautiful.
Besides the plot I also really love the cinematography, it is so beautiful and colorful. The portrayal of a conservative Pope by Antony Hopkins is perfect. Jonathan Pryce as Archbishop is beautiful. Although this movie plot is around the debate of two religious’ leaders of 1,2 billion people but when you see it, it will be seeing normal people conversation that has its flaws and story and I think you’re going to love it.


  • .       Joker

The thing about Joker is, everybody can be a Joker. Everybody can interpret the origin of Joker; everybody has their version of Joker. In this movie, Joker which portrayed by Joaquin Phoenix was interpreted as a failed stand-up comedian that has a mental illness. This movie gave us just a little glimpse of what Joker is capable to ruin a city, but it gave us a lot of where all the madness comes from.
Joaquin Phoenix acting in this movie is amazing. I think it was the best performance of actor in leading role in 2019. The acting is so good it can cover the movie’s plot that in my opinion isn’t very good. His facial expression alone can make this movie interesting and it’s made him worthy of academy awards best actor in 2019.
I enjoy both DC and Marvel movies but I’m personally like DC more than Marvel. DC offers a darker and deeper storyline than marvel which I like. Recently with movies like Joker, Wonder Woman, Aquaman and Shazam produced brilliantly by DC, I’m confident that DC is in the right direction to head to head against Marvel.


  • .       The Irishman

Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, and Joe Pesci all together in Martin Scorsese movie? That’s fantastic. I cannot ask for more. I love Scorsese’s works from Raging Bull, Goodfellas, Taxi Driver, The Departed, Gang of New York, Shutter Island, Casino, the wolf of Wall Street and I love Hugo too. So, it’s obviously when I found out that there will be another Scorsese movie, I’m hyped up for that.
The Irishman is a movie about Frank Sheeran which portrayed by Robert De Niro. He was a hitman and now he just an old man in a nursing home. As he sits down in a nursing home, he recalls all his good years behind. He was a hitman back then. Jimmy Hoffa (Al Pacino) asks him for his service as a bodyguard which started the friendship between these two. This movie is almost 4 hours, so there are a l lot of people that get bored by this movie. I’m personally thankful it was a long movie because I think this movie is well structured from the beginning to the end. If you enjoy mafia kind movie then you’ll enjoy this movie too.
There are two things that bother me from this movie. First, Robert De Niro is not in an Italian American role and Robert De Niro Height. Oh, do you paint houses?

This is my review of a book called Arus Pemikiran Lenin & Stalin. This book was written by Mr. Lukman Santoso and it’s published in 2005. The reason I bought this book because the book was cheap and light. This book is just IDR10000 (under one US Dollar) at Gramedia. This book is only 200 pages. Personally, I like to buy small books because mostly big book is a more expensive and smaller book is portable. I don’t have any expectations when I bought this book because it’s just IDR10000, cheaper than my usual lunch cost. This book is about the story of Russian Leader, Lenin & Stalin. This book has 2 main chapters. The first chapter is about Lenin with his own story and next to it is Stalin's story. The story itself started from their underground movement against Tsar Nicholas to their victory overthrown the Tsar Empire. besides that, there’s a story about how Lenin governs his party and nation and also the story of the struggle of power o...
